GRATEFUL PATIENT

In January of 2023, I severely dislocated my shoulder in a skiing mishap at Edelweiss. I’d had dislocated shoulders before but never like this one.

I must say that I walked through the doors of the Wakefield Hospital Emergency Department with a lot of trepidation. I was in a lot of pain – and the idea of waiting for hours and hours to see someone wasn’t an encouraging one.

It turns out that my fear was not necessary at all.

I didn’t wait long at all before seeing a nurse, and then a doctor. Two doctors and a nurse struggled to get my shoulder back into place, but finally they succeeded. I was very relieved as I said thank you and left.

I also felt very fortunate to be a local resident (I live halfway between Wakefield and Old Chelsea) and to have a community hospital that does great work (without a huge wait in my case). I’m now a fan of the Wakefield Hospital – and I’ve become a donor as well. It’s my way of paying back those people who were so helpful and doing what I can to ensure that the next person who walks through the door receives the same great care that I did.

If you’re a donor to the Wakefield Hospital Foundation, thank you. And if you’re not yet a donor, may I encourage you to consider becoming one? After all, none of us knows when we’ll be going through those Emergency Department doors with an issue of our own.
