Dear friends and partners,
Please be advised the Des Collines Health Foundation will not be hosting an annual Garden Party this summer.
The Garden Party is a true labour of love and is usually held around the 3rd Saturday in July. This exemplary community effort relies on the generosity of over 100 volunteers.
Preparing for change
Hi, I am Maureen. I’ve spent several years recuperating from my own medical emergency several years ago. I am a glass artist and have a big love affair with our communities and know first hand the critical importance of quality health care when and where you need it. I started as Operations Director of the Foundation in mid-June. It’s scary and exciting all at once.
Successful changes in organizations require groundwork that provides direction, sets expectations and establishes accountability for results.
As I was getting my feet wet in mid-June, I was kindly advised by volunteers, to hold off hosting the annual garden party. As much as this saddened me, I accepted their wise advice.
Proceeds from this event are generally directed to purchase necessary equipment such as items that provide greater comfort in the Long-Term Care facility on the 2nd floor of the Wakefield Memorial Hospital.
“Joining the Foundation allows me to continue doing what I love most: being creative, asking questions, and constantly learning. On top of that, I have the privilege of working with amazing volunteers and meeting some of our wonderful health care workers in the community. Finally, my job is to find new ideas and volunteers, raise funds and seek sponsors to promote quality health in our communities. “
